#TheFoodCalendar – August 2016

thefoodcalendar august 2016

Welcome to the #TheFoodCalendar for August. I for one am getting very excited about the Olympics this month, so expect my blog to be very quiet over the next few weeks as I’m glued to the coverage on TV (and probably on my phone, iPad and radio all at the same time 🙂 ). I’m also looking forward to the return of the Bake Off but I can’t find a start date for it anywhere (so it’s not on the calendar yet), I’m guessing it’s been pushed back because of the Olympics coverage – if anyone knows when it starts then tell me because I don’t want to miss it!

What’s on in August?

1 June – 31 August – Breast Cancer Care – Strawberry Tea

5-21 August – 2016 Rio Olympics

8-14 August – Afternoon Tea Week

8-14 August – National Allotments Week

22-29 August – Caribbean Food Week

25 August – National Burger Day

If you’re looking for some recipe inspiration for these events then take a look below as all month other fabulous food bloggers will be sharing their recipes. I’ve also got plenty of Pinterest Boards related to these events so make sure you take a look at those too and if you’re tweeting or instagramming about any of these events then don’t forget to use the #TheFoodCalendar hashtag.

Add your recipes to #TheFoodCalendar

If you’re a food blogger than I’d love you to come and share your recipes for the events in the calendar this month.

You can…

  1. Add your post(s) to the linky at the bottom of this page.
  2. Share a post/picture/thought about any of the events using hashtag #TheFoodCalendar on Twitter and/or Instagram (you can also tag me @CharlotteLK on Twitter and @charlotteslivelykitchen on Instagram if you like).
  3. Pin your post to my dedicated #TheFoodCalendar Pinterest board – to join the board make sure you’re following me (as it won’t work otherwise) and then leave your Pinterest ID in the comments and I’ll add you.

Once you’ve done that then go and share the love with some of the other bloggers joining in – comment on some of the other links, like/retweet on Twitter, heart/comment on Instagram or Repin some pins from the Pinterest board. I’ll be reading, tweeting and commenting on all the posts shared.

You’re also more that welcome to add the #TheFoodCalendar badge to your posts to let others know all about it (you’ll find the code at the bottom of this post).

 Loading InLinkz ...

By linking up your posts you’re giving me permission to use an image from the post in future roundups (with credit and a link back) and also to share the post with an image on social media. If you don’t want me to do either of these then just let me know in the comments.

To add the #TheFoodCalendar badge to your post, simply copy the code below into the text editor of your post (any problems, let me know and I’ll do my best to help).

  1. Hooray! I finally have something to link up to your linky. I’m not sure I managed a single one in July. Nothing I had fitted in with any of the July events. But this one definitely does! Like you I am getting very excited about the Olympics and so it has given me the perfect excuse to find out more about Brazilian cuisine. My Easy Brazilian Feijoada is a simplified version of Brazil’s national dish: a one pot stew of black beans, belly pork and chorizo. I’ve also been trying or Brazilian wine! Xx

  2. Thank you for the reminder, I really need to be more organised! Xx

    • Me too! every time I update the calendar I think “ooh I really must do a recipe for that event” and then run out of time before it happens. I’m going to make a resolution in September (when the boys are at school) to do more of them.

  3. Going to try and join in this month too. Definitely have something for Afternoon Tea week and going to get my thinking cap on for the Olympics!

  4. Hi Charlotte. I have linked up my scone recipe again, hope that is ok but it perfect for Afternoon Tea Week! I am hoping to add a couple of others as well – need to get my thinking cap on! Can you add me to the pinterest board please – its chonniebakes – I am following you 🙂

  5. Just added some scones for Allotment Week AND Afternoon Tea Week!!

  6. Hi Charlotte. Its National Rum day on the 16th August as well .. thought you may want to add it as I know we celebrated Gin day – oh what a good day 🙂 Not to worry if not just thought I would let you know. I am hoping to make something rum and raisin inspired …. :

    • Not sure whether to add that one or not as it’s an American day (although it seems that everyone in the UK joins in with the American days). I decided not to add the American days into the calendar because there’s so many it would get out of control! I’m more than happy for you too link up any recipe you create for it though – my hubby loves rum and raisin so I’ll be interested to see what you create x

  7. Hi Charlotte, I’m not sure how the interest bit works but here’s my Pinterest ID Luchi Bakes. Please, add me

  8. Hi Charlotte, I’ve just shared my bilberry tarts for Afternoon Tea week, I could very happily enjoy afternoon tea everyday …….only if my waiste line didn’t suffer 😉

    • Me too! I’m sure I’d be very happy writing an afternoon tea review blog where I try a different one each day but I always end up tasting far too many cakes each time I go 🙂

      • Ooh tell me about it Charlotte, I love cake far far far too much 😉 Thankfully when I’ve been for afternoon tea the establishments have boxed up our remaining cakes & pasteries so we can have one the following day and share a little with my folks.
Anyway, I’m back linking up a Brazilian dessert especially to mark the Rio games.

        • I’ve never tried asking for my afternoon tea to be boxed up – I’ll have to give that a try next time 🙂

  9. Hi Charlotte. Totally understand about not including American events but thanks for letting me link up this one just in time for National Rum Day on 16th. Thanks. Chonnie

  10. Doh! im going mad just commented that i had missed the link up this month when i was sure i had. Now i realise that i was looking at last years linky- senior moment!

    • Ha ha, no idea how you managed that but glad you managed to find the right one. It’s open until 11:55 tonight if you want to sneak something in at the last minute.
