With just 3 ingredients and 2 minutes you can make a delicious chocolate fudge sauce, perfect for pouring over your favourite ice cream of for using as a chocolate dipping sauce.
This chocolate sauce takes me back to my childhood. I don’t remember much of the food I ate when I was little (sorry Mum, I’m sure it was all very delicious), but I do remember that for a treat we’d have vanilla ice cream with homemade chocolate sauce poured over the top. I think part of the reason I remember was that me and my sister used to make it. Another reason is that if I knew we had ice cream in the house I’d sometimes make myself a sneaky batch after school if I needed a bit of a pick-me-up before tackling my homework (sorry again Mum).
This is absolutely not a sophisticated recipe, it’s yummy and sweet and what I would call “comfort food”. It’s also incredibly simple to make. When I was younger we used to simply put all of the ingredients in a bowl and blast them in the microwave for about a minute. Nowadays I prefer to melt it all on the hob because I find it relaxing to stand and stir things for a minute or two, it also feels more like cooking which makes me happy 🙂
As well as being perfect for pouring over ice cream and dipping random fruit, marshmallows or biscuits, this also makes a nice chocolate filling. As it’s soft you’ll need to make the chocolates in a mould and then pour in the sauce once it’s cooled. If you’d like to know how then take a look at my caramel filled chocolate and simply substitute the caramel filling for this chocolate fudge sauce.

This is great for ice cream but also makes a great chocolate cake topping when cooled. Quick and easy to make but also keeps well in the fridge and can be reheated in the micro if you want to get it started in advance.
Jane says
Quick, easy and very tasty – what’s not to love. I’ve used it over ice cream and as cake icing with both milk and dark chocolate. I’m going to try it with orange flavoured chocolate next

Hi Charlotte. Is this chocolate good for filling cupcakes? I use shop bought but it’s becoming increasingly expensive. Plus I think its a bonus to tell clients its homemade. I just want to make sure it stays gooey in the middle and does not set. Thankyou. Susie xx

I haven’t tried it, but it should be fine.
Mum says
Dad says he always got the blame for the missing chocolate – I think you owe him some treats to make up!!
Charlotte Oates says
What would he like?
Bethany says
This looks so, so good!
Angela / Only Crumbs Remain says
Mmmm! This looks so good Charlotte and a doddle to make. I really don’t care if it’s not ‘sophisticated’ as long as it tastes good – which I know this will – that’s all that matters.

I tend to find I like unsophisticated food the best 🙂

Ah I needed this two weeks ago when I made churros! Saved for the next time! Does the sauce set when it gets cold?
Charlotte Oates says
It sets but not really hard, more of a soft fudgey consistency, it loses its shine too when it chills.
Martin @ The Why Chef says
I love that kind of consistency! That ‘can still stick your finger in it when it’s been in the fridge for a day’ kind of cheeky nibble when you don’t know what to eat.

Yum, this sounds fab. Love that thing where it goes hard again when it is poured on the cold ice cream. Does it work with dark chocolate too? I am more of a dark chocolate girl 🙂 You have brought back memories of the fabulous chocolate sauce my dad used to make when we were kids…it involved cocoa powder, though not chocolate…must ask him for the recipe… Eb x
Charlotte Oates says
Yes this would definitely work with dark chocolate. I wouldn’t try it with white though as it’s quite a sweet sauce and I think it would be too much with the extra sweetness of the white. I look forward to having a read of your sauce recipe once you’ve got hold if it.

Easy…. but delicious! You can’t beat a good fudgy chocolate sauce (especially one this simple!)
Charlotte Oates says
I know, the only problem with it being so simple is that it’s far too tempting, I always have the ingredients in and I want to make it more than I should!
CakeSpy says
This is beautiful and I love how easy it is!! Love it, and am including it in next Friday’s link roundup!
Charlotte Oates says
Ooh thanks, send me a link once it’s done as I’d love to share it x
